How this is calculated
Historical mode uses the BLS CPI-U ratio: amount times target-year CPI divided by source-year CPI. The annualized rate is the geometric mean over the selected year span.
Projection mode compounds the amount by the assumed annual inflation rate, then shows the deflated real value as the companion number.
